The core idea
Energy expenditure is influenced by multiple characteristics and behaviors. That complexity is one reason to be cautious when marketing attributes a large real-world outcome to one ingredient or one proposed metabolic mechanism.
A better way to evaluate the question
- Define the claim. Identify the actual outcome being promised or implied.
- Match the evidence. Ask whether research studied the same ingredient or product, dose, population, and outcome.
- Check the total picture. Look for conflicting findings, safety limitations, and whether results have been replicated.
- Keep mechanisms in proportion. A biological mechanism is not automatically evidence of a meaningful real-world result.
